Indications/Uses
Complicated skin & soft tissue infections (cSSTI) in adult (≥18 yr) caused by susceptible isolates of the designated microorganisms eg, Staph aureus (including methicillin-susceptible & resistant isolates), Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae, E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae & Klebsiella oxytoca.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult ≥18 yr 600 mg IV infusion over 60 min every 12 hr for 5-14 days. CrCl >30 to ≤50 mL/min 400 mg every 12 hr over 60 min.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ceftaroline & other cephalosporins. Severe & immediate hypersensitivity to β-lactam antibiotics (eg, penicillins or carbapenems).
Special Precautions
History of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins, penicillins or other β-lactam antibacterials. Discontinue treatment if severe hypersensitivity, C. difficile-associated diarrhoea occurs. Preexisting seizure disorder. Development of +ve direct antiglobulin test may occur during treatment. Superinfections may occur. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Renal impairment. Not to be used during pregnancy. Lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Positive Coombs direct test. Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain; headache, dizziness; rash, pruritus; increased transaminases; phlebitis; pyrexia, infusion site reactions (erythema, phlebitis, pain).
