Contents
Dexamethasone 0.5 mg, dexchlorpheniramine maleate 2 mg
Indications/Uses
Allergy which needs to be treated w/ corticosteroid.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1 caplet every 4-6 hr daily after meal & before sleeping.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Ocular herpes simplex, peptic ulcer, osteoporosis. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs. Newborn or premature babies.
Special Precautions
Avoid abrupt discontinuation in long-term use. Avoid in patients w/ a history of psychosis. Patients w/ systemic infections, ocular herpes simplex, TB, heart disease or CHF, closed-angle glaucoma, narrowed peptic ulcer, pyloroduodenal obstruction, hypertrophy of the prostate or bladder neck obstruction, HTN, hyperthyroidism. Give antacids between meals to avoid peptic ulcer. Impaired renal function. Pregnancy & lactation. Continuous or long-term use in childn may affect growth.
Adverse Reactions
Blurred vision in cataracts, diabetes, drowsiness, CV & GI reactions, urticaria, dryness of the mouth, nose & throat, redness of the skin. Acute adrenal insufficiency w/ symptoms eg, fever, myalgia, arthralgia & malaise due to abrupt discontinuation. Fluid & electrolyte disturbances, Cushing's syndrome (including moon face, buffalo hump, supraclavicular fat deposits, central obesity, striae, acne & hirsutism) from long-term & large doses.
Drug Interactions
Reduced blood levels of dexamethasone w/ phenytoin. Metyrapone & aminoglutethimide inhibit the action of corticosteroids.
