Domperidone
Indications/Uses
Adult: Acute nausea & vomiting; nausea & vomiting due to levodopa & bromocriptine; symptomatic treatment of functional dyspepsia. Childn: Nausea & vomiting due to chemo- & radiotherapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly
Functional dyspepsia
10-20 mg 3 times daily & 10-20 mg at bedtime. Duration treatment: Max: 12 wk.
Nausea & vomiting (including levodopa-/bromocriptine induced nausea & vomiting)
10-20 mg at 4-8 hrly interval.
Childn
Nausea & vomiting due to chemotherapy & radiotherapy
0.2-0.4 mg/kg/day at 4-8 hrly interval.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 15-30 min before meals & at bedtime.
Contraindications
Hypophyseal tumor prolactinoma which release prolactin.
Special Precautions
Long-term use. Impaired liver & kidney function. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation, dystonic extrapyramidal reactions, parkinsonism, tardive dyskinesia (in adult & elderly); galactorrhea, gynecomastia; dry mouth, headache, diarrhea, skin rash, thirst, anxiety, itching.
