Indications/Uses
Adult: Acute nausea & vomiting (Not recommended for routine prevention of post-surgical vomiting); acute nausea & vomiting due to levodopa & bromocriptine usage for >12 wk; symptomatic treatment of functional dyspepsia. Childn: Nausea & vomiting due to chemo- & radiotherapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Functional dyspepsia Adult & elderly 10-20 mg 3 times daily & 10-20 mg at bedtime. Duration of therapy: Max 12 wk. Nausea & vomiting Adult (including elderly) 10-20 mg at 4-8 hr interval. Childn 0.2-0.4 mg/kg/day at 4-8 hr interval.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 15-30 min before meals.
Contraindications
Childn (unless to prevent nausea & vomiting associated w/ chemotherapy or RT). Patients w/ prolactin-released tumour.
Special Precautions
Prolonged use. Liver & renal dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation, dystonic extrapyramidal reactions, Parkinson's disease, tardive dyskinesia (in adult & elderly patients), galactorrhea, gynecomastia, dry mouth, headache, diarrhoea, skin rash, thirst, anxiety & itching.
Drug Interactions
May reduce hypoprolactinemia of bromocriptine. Effect may be antagonized by antimuscarinic & opioid analgesics.
