Ciprofloxacin HCl
Indications/Uses
Infections caused by ciprofloxacin-sensitive pathogen.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult UTI Mild/moderate: 250 mg twice daily. Severe: 500 mg twice daily. Resp tract, bone, joint, skin & soft tissue infections Mild/moderate: 250-500 mg twice daily. Severe: 500-750 mg twice daily. Chronic prostatitis 500 mg twice daily. GI infections 500 mg twice daily. Acute gonorrhoea 250 mg as a single dose. Acute osteomyelitis At least 750 mg twice daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals. Do not take w/ antacids, Fe or dairy products. Ensure adequate fluid intake.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolone derivatives. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Epilepsy, history of CNS disorders. Overgrowth of microorganisms (prolonged use). Avoid excessive sunlight exposure. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Renal impairment. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
CNS disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, renal/urogenital effects, liver disorders, CV disturbances, hematological changes, temporary increase in blood transaminase & alkaline phosphatase; cholestatic jaundice; transient increase of bilirubin & creatinine in blood; GI complaint.
Drug Interactions
Cyclosporine, probenecid; Al- & Mg-containing antacids, theophylline, oral anticoagulants, metoclopramide.
