Salbutamol sulfate
Indications/Uses
Management & prevention of asthma attack. Routine management of chronic bronchospasm unresponsive to conventional therapy; acute severe asthma (status asthmaticus).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn Initially 2.5 mg, may be repeated 4 times daily by nebulizer.
Contraindications
Threatened abortion during 1st or 2nd trimesters of pregnancy. Management of premature labor eg, placenta previa, antepartum haemorrhage or toxemia of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Thyrotoxicosis, hypokalemia. Particularly in acute severe asthma, in concomitant w/ xanthine derivatives, steroids & diuretics & by hypoxia. Monitor serum K levels in case of hypokalemia. Acute closed-angle glaucoma when combined w/ ipratropium Br. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Tremor, headache, tachycardia.
Drug Interactions
Salbutamol & non-selective β-blocking drugs eg, propranolol; MAOIs.
