Norepinephrine bitartrate
Indications/Uses
BP control in acute hypotensive states. Adjunctive treatment of cardiac arrest & profound hypotension.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Dilute 4 mL in 1,000 mL of a 5% dextrose-containing soln. Maintenance: 0.5-1 mL/min.
Contraindications
Hypotension due to blood vol deficits except as an emergency measure to maintain coronary & cerebral artery perfusion until blood vol replacement can be completed. Mesenteric or peripheral vascular thrombosis; concomitant w/ cyclopropane & halothane anesth.
Special Precautions
HTN. Should be given to a large vein particularly an antecubital vein. Avoid the veins of the leg of the elderly. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Ischemic injury, bradycardia, arrhythmias, anxiety, transient headache, resp difficulty, extravasation necrosis at inj site, plasma vol depletion (prolonged administration).
Drug Interactions
MAOIs or TCA.
