Indications/Uses
Short-term management of anxiety. Adjunct in the relief of muscle spasm & muscle hypertonicity. Alcohol w/drawal symptoms, pre- & post-op conditions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Anxiety & adjunct in muscle spasm 2-10 mg 2-4 times daily depending on the severity. Alcohol w/drawal 10 mg 3-4 times daily in the 1st 24 hr, then 5 mg 3-4 times daily. Elderly & debilitated patient Initially 1-2.5 mg 3-4 times daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Resp depression; acute pulmonary insufficiency; sleep apnoea syndrome; not for chronic psychosis. Severe hepatic impairment. Inj: Neonates.
Special Precautions
Resp disease, muscle weakness, history of drug or alcohol abuse, marked personality disorder. Avoid prolonged use & abrupt w/drawal. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Hepatic & renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, lightheadedness, ataxia, amnesia, dependence, paradoxical increase in aggression, muscle weakness, libido changes.
Drug Interactions
CNS depressants & alcohol, cimetidine, omeprazole, rifampicin.
