Omeprazole
Indications/Uses
Short-term therapy of duodenal ulcer responsive to H2-receptor antagonists, treatment of gastric ulcer, erosive or ulcerative reflux oesophagitis. Long-term therapy of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Duodenal ulcer 20-40 mg once daily for 2-4 wk. Gastric ulcer or erosive/ulcerative reflux oesophagitis 20 mg once daily, may be increased to 40 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome 60 mg once daily in the morning. Severe cases: 20-120 mg once or twice daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before a meal.
Special Precautions
Exclude malignancy if gastric ulcer is suspected. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, urticaria, constipation, flatulence.
Drug Interactions
Prolongs elimination of diazepam, phenytoin, warfarin, cyclosporine, disulfiram, ketoconazole, ampicillin, Fe-containing salts.
