Ondansetron
Indications/Uses
Management of nausea & vomiting induced by chemotherapy & radiotherapy. Post-op nausea & vomiting.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Prevention of nausea & vomiting associated w/ moderately emetogenic cancer chemotherapy Adult 8 mg twice daily. Administer 1st dose 30 min prior to chemotherapy w/ subsequent dose 4-8 hrly. Thereafter, 8 mg twice daily for 1-2 days after completion of chemotherapy. Childn 4-12 yr 4 mg 3 times daily. Prevention of nausea & vomiting associated w/ radiotherapy 8 mg 1-2 hr prior to radiotherapy w/ subsequent doses 8 hrly after the 1st dose. Post-op nausea & vomiting 16 mg as single dose 1 hr prior to anaesth induction.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, headache, diarrhea; flushing, warm sensation in the head & epigastrium. Rarely, rash, tachycardia, angina.
Drug Interactions
Cytochrome P-450 inducers & inhibitors.
