Ceftriaxone disodium
Indications/Uses
Infections of the resp tract, skin & soft tissue, UTI, intra-abdominal, bone & joint; gonorrhoea; bacteremia or septicaemia; surgical prophylaxis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 g daily IV in 1-2 divided doses. Max 4 g/day. Gonococcal infections 250 mg IM in single dose. Surgical prophylaxis 1-2 g IV as a single dose 30-90 min before surgery. Childn >6 wk 20-50 mg/kg on single dose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin.
Special Precautions
History of hypersensitivity to penicillins. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI upsets, hematological changes, skin reactions, coagulation disorders, agranulocytosis (rare).
