Megestrol acetate

Indications/Uses

Anorexia & cachexia for cancer & HIV AIDS patients.

Dosage/Direction for Use

20 mL once daily. Elderly & patient w/ CKD Intially 10 mL once daily.

Administration

Should be taken with food.

Contraindications

Diagnostic test for pregnancy (especially during the 1st 4 mth).

Special Precautions

History of thrombophlebitis. Lactation. Childn.

Adverse Reactions

Nausea, vomiting, edema, breakthrough uterine bleeding. Rarely, thromboembolic phenomena; dyspnea, heart failure, HTN, hot flushes, mood changes, cushingoid facies, tumor flare (w/ or w/o hypercalcemia), hyperglycemia, alopecia, carpal tunnel syndrome, rash.
