Methylprednisolone
Indications/Uses
Resp & dermatologic diseases, rheumatic & endocrine disorders, allergic states & various autoimmune diseases.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 4-48 mg/day. Childn 0.4-1.6 mg/kg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Systemic fungal infections. Recent immunization. Lactation.
Special Precautions
Active or latent TB; hypothyroidism, cirrhosis (enhanced effect); ocular herpes simplex; intercurrent infections; osteoporosis; duodenal & peptic ulcer (long-term use). Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Fluid & electrolyte disturbances, muscle weakness, impaired wound healing, increased BP, posterior subcapsular cataracts, growth suppression in childn, adrenal insufficiency, Cushing's syndrome, osteoporosis, peptic ulcer.
Drug Interactions
NSAIDs, antidiabetics, phenytoin, rifampicin, barbiturates, diuretics.
