Indications/Uses
Allergic conjunctivitis, keratitis, optic neuritis, iritis, SLE, acute rheumatic carditis, polymyositis, allergic rhinitis, contact or atopic dermatitis, bronchial asthma, herpetiform & exfoliative dermatitis, SJS, psoriasis, adrenal cortex insufficiency, thrombocytopenic purpura in adult, autoimmune haemolytic anemia, erythroblastopenia, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, nephrotic syndrome, RA, ankylosing spondylitis, bursitis, acute gout arthritis, post-traumatic OA, acute & chronic lymphocytic leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, rejection of organ transplantation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 4-48 mg daily, depending on the type & severity of the disease & patient's response.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Tuberculous (except fulminant or disseminate TB), systemic fungal infections, vaccinia, varicella, herpes simplex keratitis, peptic ulcer, Cushing's syndrome, acute psychosis, recent vaccination.
Special Precautions
Abrupt w/drawal of treatment. Stress, infections, vaccination. Long-term use may cause subcapsular cataract, glaucoma & viral or fungal eye infection. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Moon face, muscle weakness, HTN, osteoporosis, reduced glucose tolerance, endocrine disturbances, striae, petechiae, acne, edema, hypokalemia, adrenal cortex atrophy, vasculitis, peptic ulcer, reduced body immunity, impaired wound healing, growth retardation, glaucoma, cataract, thrombosis, psychosis, allergic reactions.
