Gabapentin
Indications/Uses
Adjunct therapy for partial epilepsy w/ or w/o secondary general seizure. Treatment of neuropathic pain in adults (≥18 yr).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1st day: 300 mg once daily (night), 2nd day: 300 mg twice daily (morning & night), 3rd day: 300 mg 3 times daily (morning, afternoon & night).
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Acute pancreatitis. Not effective for primary generalized seizure.
Special Precautions
May impair the ability to drive or operate machinery. Patients w/ impaired kidney function. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, drowsiness, tremor, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, nystagmus, dyplopia, amblyopia, dysarthria, amnesia, asthenia, paresthesia, arthralgia, purpura, dyspepsia, anxiety, wt gain, UTI, pharyngitis, leucopenia, abnormal thinking, pancreatitis, increased LFT, erythema multiforme, SJS, confusion, depression, emotional lability, hostility, hallucination, fluctuation of blood sugar in diabetes, rhinitis, nervousness, myalgia.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ Al- or Mg-containing antacids.
