Indications/Uses
Septicaemia, meningitis, abdominal infection (peritonitis, gallbladder, GI), bone, joint & soft tissues infection, surgical prophylaxis, renal infection & UTI, resp infection, gonococcal infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr (or > 50 kg) 1-2 g once daily. Severe infection: May increase to 4 g once daily. Childn 15 days-12 yr 20-80 mg/kg once daily. Neonate <2 wk 20-50 mg/kg once daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins & penicillins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. History of anaphylactic shock, diarrhoea. Prolonged therapy may result in superinfection of nonsensitive microorganism. Pregnancy & lactation. Premature neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Hematologic reactions, GI disorders, skin reactions.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides, chloramphenicol, vancomycin, Ca, amsacrine.
