Captopril
Indications/Uses
HTN, heart failure.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 12.5-25 mg 2 times daily. After 1-2 wk, increase to 50 mg 2-3 times daily as required. Heart failure Patient w/ normal or low BP who have been vigorously treated w/ diuretics & who may be hyponatremic or hypovolaemic Initially 6.25 or 12.5 mg 3 times daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ACE inhibitors.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Rash, pruritus, reversible associated pemphigoid-like lesion, photosensitivity. Angioedema of the face. Proteinuria. Neutropenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
Hypotensive effects enhanced by diuretics, other antihypertensives & reduced by indomethacin, salicylates.
