Ethambutol
Indications/Uses
To detect infections caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis of the lungs & the dermatomusculoskeletal if labeled w/ technetium-99m.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Adult 370-740 MBq (10-20 mCi)/70 kg.
Contraindications
History of allergy to TB-Scan. Patient w/ optic neuritis. Pregnant or breastfeeding women.
Special Precautions
Should only be used by trained personnel. Careful handling of radiopharmaceuticals. Can be given only after completing the labeling procedure. Consider increased sensitivity of epiphyses in bone that is still growing due to ionizing radiation. Visual impairment. Report vision loss during treatment. Ensure adequate fluid & frequency of pauses to reduce radiation dose in the urinary tract. Can increase radiation exposure in patients w/ renal insufficiency. Radiopharmaceutical exam on women who are potentially pregnant must be done w/in the 1st days (about 10 days) following onset of menstruation. Childn. Elderly.
