Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract infection, urogenital tract infection, gonorrhoea, skin & soft tissue infection, intra-abdominal infection including peritonitis, bone & joint infection, CNS infections (meningitis).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1 g 12 hrly. Serious infection Max: 12 g/day. For doses >4 g/day, give in 2 divided doses 12 hrly. Gonorrhoea 1 g/day IM as a single dose. Uncomplicated infection 2 g/day IM or IV, 1 g 12 hrly. Moderate to severe infection 3-6 g/day IM or IV, 1-2 g 8 hrly. Life-threatening infection Up to 12 g/day IV, 2 g 4 hrly. For infection requiring higher dose 6-8 g/day IV, 2 g 6-8 hrly. Pre- & post-op 1-2 g 30-60 min prior to surgery.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. History of GI disease. Severe renal dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Fever, pruritus, urticaria, SJS, anaphylactic shock (rare). Thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, leukopenia, vaginitis, moniliasis.

Aminoglycosides.
