Per mL Tafluprost 15 mcg, timolol 5 mg
Indications/Uses
Reduction of IOP in adult patients w/ open angle glaucoma or ocular HTN who are insufficiently responsive to topical monotherapy w/ β-blockers or prostaglandin analogues & require a combination therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ or history of bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, or severe COPD; poor-controlled cardiac failure, sinus bradycardia, 2nd- or 3rd-degree AV block, or cardiogenic shock.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ right ventricular failure caused by pulmonary HTN; CHF; diabetic ketoacidosis or metabolic acidosis; poor-controlled diabetes; aphakia or pseudophakia; intraocular inflammation (iritis, uveitis). May be absorbed systemically & cause adverse drug reactions similar to those caused by systemic administration of a β-blocker. Pigmentation in iris & eyelid or hypertrichosis around the eyes may occur. Corneal epithelium disorder (superficial punctate keratitis, filamentary keratitis or corneal erosion) may occur during treatment. Closed angle glaucoma. Switch from a miotic may require refraction adjustment. Instill at least 5 min interval if other ophth drug is used. Remove contact lenses prior to administration & re-insert after at least 15 min. Contains benzalkonium Cl (closely monitor frequent or prolonged use in dry eye patients, or in conditions w/ compromised cornea). Not to be used to treat contact lens related irritation. Renal or hepatic impairment. Avoid driving or operating machinery if blurry vision develops. Pregnant, parturient women. Avoid administration to nursing mothers. Not recommended in childn & adolescents <18 yr. Infants (low birth wt) & neonates. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Eyelashes abnormality (increased length, thickness, & number of lashes), conjunctival inj, corneal epithelium disorder including punctate keratitis. Blepharal pigmentation, irritation, itching, blepharitis, keratoconjunctivitis sicca.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced mydriatic action w/ adrenaline, dipivefrin HCl. Additive β-blocking action w/ catecholamine-depleting drugs eg, reserpine; systemic β-adrenergic blockers eg, atenolol, propranolol HCl & metoprolol tartrate. May induce AV conduction disorder, left ventricular failure or hypotension w/ Ca antagonists eg, verapamil HCl, diltiazem HCl. Increased cardiac conduction disorder w/ digitalis prep eg, digoxin, digitoxin. May increase blood conc w/ CYP2D6 inhibitors eg, quinidine sulfate hydrate, SSRIs.
