Methoxsalen
Indications/Uses
As a topical repigmenting agent in vitiligo in conjunction w/ controlled doses of UV A (320-400 nm) or sunlight.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Treatment intervals should be based on the erythema response. Usually, once wkly or less often. Pigmentation may begin after a few wk but significant repigmentation may need 6-9 mnth of treatment.
Contraindications
Patients exhibit idiosyncratic reactions to psoralen compd or a history sensitivity reactions to any component of this drug. Melanoma or a history of melanoma. Invasive skin carcinoma. Have a photosensitivity-related disorders eg, porphyria, acute lupus erythematosus, xeroderma pigmentosum. Childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Should only be applied on small lesion. Pregnancy, lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Burning sensation at the application site.
