Bromhexine HCl

Indications/Uses

As a mucolytic to relieve productive cough.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Caplet Adult & childn >10 yr 1 caplet 3 times daily, 5-10 yr ½ caplet 3 times daily, 2-5 yr ½ caplet twice daily. Syr Adult & childn >10 yr 2 tsp 3 times daily. Childn 5-10 yr 1 tsp 3 times daily, 2-5 yr 1 tsp twice daily. Inj Pre- & post-op 1 amp as 2-3 min IV inj 2-3 times daily. Inhalation soln Childn 5-10 yr 2 mL 3 times daily, 2-5 yr 2 mL twice daily.

Administration

Should be taken with food.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity.

Special Precautions

Severe allergic reactions ie, erythema multiforme, SJS/TEN, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) associated w/ bromhexine HCl use. Pregnancy & lactation. Caplet/Syr: Patients w/ gastric ulcer.

Adverse Reactions

Hypersensitivity reactions, anaphylactic reactions including anaphylactic shock, angioedema, pruritus; rash, urticaria; bronchospasm; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, upper abdominal pain; headache, vertigo, sweating; severe skin disorders including erythema multiforme, SJS/TEN, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP).

Drug Interactions

Caplet/Syr: May increase conc of antibiotics (amoxicillin, cefuroxime, doxycycline) in co-administration.
