Treatment-resistant schizophrenic patients who are nonresponsive or intolerant to classical neuroleptics.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 1st day: 12.5 mg 1-2 times daily; 2nd day: 25 mg 1-2 times daily. Dosage may be gradually increased from 25-50 mg until max of 300 mg daily in 2-3 wk. Duration of therapy: At least 6 mth.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of drug-induced granulocytopenia/agranulocytosis; impaired bone marrow function; circulatory collapse or CNS depression; severe hepatic, renal or cardiac failure.
Special Precautions
Use should be limited to classical neuroleptic-resistant schizophrenics, patients who have normal leukocyte findings & who are undergoing regular leukocyte exam. Caution in concomitant use w/ bone marrow depressants & long-acting antipsychotics. History of seizure. Prostate enlargement, narrow-angle glaucoma. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
