Indications/Uses
Adjunct therapy in the secondary generalized seizures in patients not satisfactorily controlled by standard anticonvulsants either in single or combination therapy. Adjunct therapy or anticonvulsant therapy in mild or complex seizures & neuropathic pain in adults ≥18 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 900-1,800 mg daily. 1st day: 300 mg once daily. 2nd day: 300 mg twice daily. 3rd day: 300 mg 3 times daily. Patient w/ impaired kidney function w/ CrCl 60-90 mL/min 400 mg 3 times daily, 30-60 mL/min 300 mg twice daily, 15-30 mL/min 300 mg once daily, <15 mL/min 300 mg every 2 days. Hemodialysis patient Initially 300-400 mg. Maintenance: 200-300 mg 4 hr after hemodialysis. Neuropathic pain 1st day: 300 mg once daily. 2nd day: 300 mg twice daily. 3rd day: 300 mg 3 times daily. Dose can be increased using increments of 300 mg daily given in 3 divided doses to a max of 1,800 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, dizziness, loss of balance, tiredness, headache, tremor, blurred vision, rhinitis, nausea, vomiting.
