Dexketoprofen
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment for mild to moderate intensity of pain eg, acute musculoskeletal pain, dysmenorrhea, toothache.
Dosage/Direction for Use
12.5 mg 4-6 hrly or 25 mg 8 hrly. Post-op pain 25 mg 8 hrly. Max daily dose: 75 mg. Patients w/ mild to moderate liver or mild kidney dysfunction Initially 50 mg daily. Inj 50 mg 8-12 hrly IM/IV.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 30 min before meals, especially for quick relief of acute pain.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity. History of asthma, bronchospasm, acute rhinitis, or nasal polyp, itching, angioneurotic edema caused by aspirin or other NSAIDs. History of gastric ulcers, chronic dyspepsia, gastric bleeding or other active bleeding, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis, bronchial asthma, severe heart failure. Neuraxial administration (intratechal or epidural). Patients w/ haemorrhagic diathesis, other coagulation disorders, or patients w/ anticoagulant therapy. Severe liver dysfunction (Child-Pugh score 10-15). Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ CV disease or risk factor of CV disease, HTN, fluid retention or heart failure, a history of GI ulcer or bleeding, peptic ulcer. Concomitant use w/ corticosteroid or oral anticoagulant, prolonged NSAID use, smoking, alcohol consumption, poor health status. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, anemia, headache, dizziness, insomnia, drowsiness, blurred vision, hypotension, hot flushes, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, diarrhea, constipation, hematemesis, dry mouth, dermatitis, pruritus, skin rash, hyperhidrosis, inflammatory bruise or bleeding, fever, fatigue, sleep disturbances, anxiety, vertigo, palpitation, gastritis, bloating, asthenia, stiffness, malaise.
Drug Interactions
Other NSAIDs, anticoagulants, heparin, lithium, MTX 15 mg/wk or higher, hydantoin, sulfonamide, diuretics, β-blockers, pentoxifylline, thrombolytic agents, zidovudine, sulfonylurea, cyclosporin, tacrolimus, probenecid, cardiac glycosides, mifepristone, quinolone antibiotic.
