Clobetasol propionate
Indications/Uses
Psoriasis (not including widespread psoriasis), recalcitrant eczema, lichen planus, lupus erythematosus, other conditions which are unresponsive to less potent topical steroid.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult, elderly, childn >1 yr Apply thinly 1-2 times daily.
Contraindications
Skin infections, rosacea, acne vulgaris, perianal & genital pruritus, perioral dermatitis. Skin disease in childn <1 yr, including dermatitis.
Special Precautions
History of hypersensitivity to corticosteroid. Hypersensitivity reactions. Abrupt w/drawal may cause glucocorticoid insufficiencies. Topical antibiotics should be given whenever treating inflammatory lesions which are followed by bacterial infections. Facial applications. Pregnancy & lactation. Prolonged use in babies & childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Opportunistic infections, local hypersensitivity, hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal suppression, Cushing's syndrome, growth hormone suppression in childn, glaucoma, hyperglycemia (glucosuria), cataract, HTN, wt gain (obesity), reduced endogenous cortisol level, alopecia, trichorrhexis, pruritus, burning/pain sensation, skin atrophy, striae, teleangiectasia, thinning of the skin, skin maceration, dry skin, pigmentation changes of the skin, hypertrichosis, erythema, skin redness, urticaria, irritation.
Drug Interactions
CYP3A4 inhibitors eg, ritonavir, itraconazole.
