Clopidogrel
Indications/Uses
Reduces atherothrombotic events in patients w/ history of MI, ischemic stroke or peripheral arterial disease; non-ST elevated acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina or non-Q wave MI treated w/ ASA).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & elderly 75 mg as a single dose. Acute coronary syndrome, MI Loading dose: 300 mg then continue 75 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Severe liver dysfunction, active pathological bleeding eg, peptic ulcer or intracranial bleeding. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Regular hematology exam. Bleeding tendency due to trauma, surgery or any pathological conditions, lesions w/ bleeding tendency especially in GI & intraocular; patients receiving ASA, NSAIDs, heparin, glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor or thrombotics. Closely monitor patients w/ impaired kidney & liver function. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Bleeding, hematological effects; CNS & peripheral nervous system effects; GI effects; rash, pruritus; leucopenia, neutropenia, eosinophilia, blood & lymphatic system disease; anaphylactoid reactions; confusion state, hallucination; taste disturbances; vasculitis, hypotension; bronchospasm; colitis, pancreatitis; hepatitis; angioedema, bulous dermatitis, erythematous rash, urticaria, eczema, lichen planus; arthralgia; glomerulonephritis; fever; impaired liver function & increased blood creatinine.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin, glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitors, ASA, heparin, thrombolytics, NSAIDs.
