Citicoline
Indications/Uses
Unconsciousness due to head trauma & brain surgery. Accelerate rehabilitation of upper extremities in hemiplegic patients due to cerebral apoplexia. Concomitant use w/ antiproteolytics for treatment of acute pancreatitis, acute pancreatitis due to recurrent chronic pancreatitis, post-op acute pancreatitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
FC caplet 1 FC caplet once daily. Inj Unconsciousness due to head trauma & brain surgery Adult 100-500 mg IV/IM 1-2 times daily. Hemiplegia due to apoplexia 250 mg or 1,000 mg IV once daily for 4 wk. May be given for >4 wk.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
In patients w/ serious acute/progressive unconsciousness due to head trauma & brain surgery. Should be given concomitantly w/ depressants & hypothermia agents. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Shock, hypersensitivity, headache, vertigo, excitation, cramps, numbness, nausea, anorexia, abnormalities in liver function test, burning sensation, temporary BP changes, malaise.
Drug Interactions
N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) antagonist, levodopa.
