Doxycycline hyclate
Indications/Uses
Resp tract, GUT, GI, skin & soft tissue, ophth & Rickettsial infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >8 yr, ≥45 kg 100 mg 12 hrly during the 1st day followed by 100 mg once daily. Childn >8 yr, <45 kg 4.4 mg/kg daily at 12-hr intervals during the 1st day followed by 2.2 mg/kg once daily. Severe infections: Adult & childn Initial daily dose may be given 12 hrly for as long as necessary. Strep infections Continue therapy for at least 10 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ a full glass of water & remain upright for at least 30 min. Avoid taking w/ dairy products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy. Childn <8 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea; dermatitis, urticaria, anaphylaxis.
Drug Interactions
Absorption impaired by Al-, Ca- or Mg-containing antacids.
