Flunarizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Migraine prophylaxis. Treatment & prevention of disturbances in the vestibule, cerebral & peripheral circulatory system eg, dizziness, tinnitus, vertigo, lack of conc, confusion, memory disturbances, sleep rhythm disorders, irritability, convulsion, paresthesia, cold sensation of extremities, trophic disorders.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initial dose: Elderly >65 yr 5 mg/day, <65 yr 10 mg/day (as night doses). Maintenance: 5 days treatment/wk & 2 successive drug-free days. Max:10 mg/day. Duration of treatment: Chronic vertigo: >1 mth. Paroxysmal vertigo: 2 mth.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
History of depression or Parkinson's disease & other extrapyramidal disorders. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Hypotension. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Kidney failure. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, fatigue, extrapyramidal reactions (bradykinesia, rigidity, akathisia, dyskinesia, tremor especially in the elderly, epigastric pain, nausea, gastralgia, insomnia, anxiety, galactorrhea, dry mouth, muscle pain, skin rash.
Drug Interactions
β-blockers.
