Doxepin HCl
Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment (8 days) in patients w/ eczematous dermatitis eg, atopic dermatitis & lichen simplex chronicus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply thinly & evenly on the affected skin 4 times daily w/ 3-4 hrly interval. Duration of treatment: Max of 8 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant treatment w/ alcohol-containing drugs, CNS depressants, cimetidine, drugs metabolized by P450 2D6, MAOIs. Patients w/ narrow angle glaucoma. Having any tendency of urinary retention.
Special Precautions
Not for ophth, oral or intravag use. Extensive & prolonged use (>8 days). Avoid alcohol consumption. May impair the ability to drive the vehicle or operate the machinery. Patients w/ urinary retention, impaired liver function, mania. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, dry mouth or lips, thirsty, dizziness, fatigue, emotional changes, burning sensation, skin tight sensation in the application site, skin irritation, stinging, itching, rash.
Drug Interactions
Alcohol, cimetidine, drug metabolized by cytochrome P450 2D6 ie, antiarrhythmias (encainide, flecainide, propafenone), antidepressants, carbamazepine, debrisoquine, dextromethorphan, phenothiazine, quinidine, MAOIs.
