Cetirizine diHCl.
Description
Each film coated tablet contains Cetirizine hydrochloride 10 mg.
Action
Cetirizine is an antihistamine selective H1-antagonist with low sedative effects in pharmacological active dose with additional properties as anti allergic agent. Cetirizine prevents the histamine release in early phase of the allergic reaction, and also reduce the migration of the inflammation cells.
Indications/Uses
For the treatment of perenial rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult and children above 12 years: 1 tablet daily.
Overdosage
Drowsiness could show the symptom of overdosage. Overdosage in children may produce agitation in the case of massive overdosage. Gastric lavage should be performed together with the usual supportive action. To date, there is no specific antidote.
Contraindications
Patients who develop hypersensitivity to Cetirizine.
Patients with severe kidney diseases.
Nursing women, because Cetirizine is excreted in breast milk.
Special Precautions
Should not be used by patients who's driving or operating machinery.
Cetirizine is not recommended during pregnancy, unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the mother and fetus.
Adverse Reactions
Cetirizine has mild and temporary adverse reactions, such as headache, dizziness, drowsiness, agitation, dry mouth, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Hypersensitive reactions such as skin reactions and angioedema could happen in rare case.
Drug Interactions
Interaction Cetirizine with other drugs are not known.
Like other antihistamine, the potentiated of Cetirizine towards alcohol has shown, therefore it should not be taken together.
