Patients w/ primary hypercholesterolemia (type IIa including heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia) or mixed dyslipidemia (type IIb) as an adjunct to diet when response to diet & exercise is inadequate. Reduces elevated LDL-cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides & ApoB, & increases HDL-cholesterol.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualized dosage. Usual starting dose: 10 mg once daily. A dose adjustment to 20 mg can be made after 4 wk, if necessary. Severe hypercholesterolemia (including those w/ familial hypercholesterolemia) 40 mg in patients who do not achieve their treatment goal on 20 mg. Severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min) Not to exceed 10 mg once daily. Severe hepatic impairment Not to exceed 20 mg once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Patient should be placed on a
standard cholesterol lowering diet that should continue during treatment before
initiating treatment w/ rosuvastatin. Not recommended for ped use.
