Indications/Uses

Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250-500 mg for 7-14 days once daily depending on the type of severity of the infection. Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis 500 mg for 7 days. Community-acquired pneumonia 500 mg daily for 7-14 days. Acute maxillary sinusitis 500 mg daily for 10-14 days. Uncomplicated skin & skin structure infection 500 mg for 7-10 days. Complicated UTI 250 mg for 10 days. Acute pyelonephritis 250 mg for 10 days. All doses to be taken once daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Ensure adequate fluid intake.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Epilepsy, history of tendon disorder related to fluoroquinolone administration. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr.
Special Precautions
Impaired kidney function, shock; hypersensitivity reactions (discontinue). Avoid excessive sunlight exposure; phototoxicity (discontinue). Prolonged use. Predisposing factors to seizures or lower seizure threshold. Blood glucose disturbances; hypoglycemia (discontinue). May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, headache, insomnia, drowsiness, sleep disturbances, anxiety, depression, hallucination, psychotic reactions, dyspepsia, tremor, taste perversion, skin rash, itching, urticaria, oedema, increased sweating, vaginitis, genital moniliasis, leucorrhea, malaise, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Anti-inflammatory drugs (eg, NSAIDs), theophylline, antidiabetic agents (eg, insulin, glibenclamide). Al- & Mg-containing antacids, sucralfate, metal cations, multivit.
