AdultUTI Mild/moderate: 250 mg 2 times daily. Severe: 500 mg 2 times daily. Resp tract, bone, joint, skin & soft tissue infections Mild/moderate: 500 mg 2 times daily. Severe: 750 mg 2 times daily. GIT infections 500 mg 2 times daily. Acute gonorrhoea 250 mg as a single dose. Acute osteomyelitis Dosage should be ≥750 mg 2 times daily. Acute infections Duration of treatment: 5-10 days. Treatment should be continued at least 2 days after the clinical symptoms subside.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to minimise GI discomfort. Do not take w/ antacids, Fe or dairy products. Ensure adequate fluid intake.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescent before the end of growth period.
Special Precautions
CNS disorders; impaired renal function; excessive dosage. Treatment should be discontinued if skin rash or other hypersensitivity reactions occur. Avoid excessive light exposure. May impair abilÂity to drive or operate machinery. Renal & hepatic function & haematopoietic system should be monitored periodically in long-term use.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, pseudomembranous colitis (rare), CNS disorders, skin/hypersensitivity reactions. Temporary increase of BUN & creatinine serum, kidney failure, crystalluria, nephritis, arthralgia, myalgia, eosinophilia, leucopenia, thrombocytopenia, temporary increase of hepatic enzymes (especially in patients w/ a history of hepatic damage).
