Indications/Uses
Listed in Dosage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
UTI Mild/moderate: 250 mg 2 times daily. Severe: 500 mg 2 times daily. Resp tract, bone & joint, skin & soft tissue infections Mild/moderate: 500 mg 2 times daily. Severe: 750 mg 2 times daily. Acute gonorrhoea 250 mg single dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to minimise GI discomfort. Do not take w/ antacids, Fe or dairy products.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Juveniles. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <18 yr.
Special Precautions
Discontinue if pain, swelling, inflammation or rupture of tendons occur. Renal disorders, w/ epilepsy or history of CNS disorders. Avoid excessive sunlight exposure. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
GI, CNS, musculoskeletal, CV reactions. Very rarely, pseudomembranous colitis; convulsion, psychotic & other CNS reactions; anaphylactic reactions including shock, SJS, interstitial nephritis; haematological effects; photosensitivity, pulmonary embolism.
Drug Interactions
Reduce absorption by mineral-containing antacids. May increase theophylline plasma levels. Transient rise of serum creatinine w/ cyclosporin. Probenecid, oral anticoagulants, metoclopramide.
