Norethisterone

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding, endometriosis, metropathia hemorrhagica, premenstrual syndrome, postponement of menstruation, menorrhagia & dysmenorrhea.

Dysfunctional uterine bleeding 1 tab 3 times daily for 10 days. Bleeding prevention: 1 tab 2-3 times daily from days 19-26 of cycle. Endometriosis 1 tab twice daily from day 5 of cycle for 4-6 mth. If spotting occurs, increase dose to 2 tab twice daily. Metropathia hemorrhagica & premenstrual syndrome 1 tab 2-3 times daily from days 19-26 of cycle. Postponement of menstruation 1 tab 3 times daily for 10-14 days, starting 3 days before the expected onset of menstruation or 1 tab 3 times daily usually 5 days before the period following Hajj or Umra. If spotting occurs, increase dose to 2 tab 3 times daily until spotting stops. Menorrhagia 1 tab 3 times daily for 10 days until the bleeding stops. Dysmenorrhea 1 tab 3 times daily from days 5-24 of cycle for the next 3-4 cycles.

May be taken with or without food.

Severe liver function disturbances, history of jaundice, herpes, & general pruritus during pregnancy, breast or genital tract carcinoma, porphyria, undiagnosed vag bleeding, Dubin-Johnson & Rotor syndromes, previous or existing liver tumors, thromboembolic disorders, thrombophlebitis, cerebrovascular disease, MI. Pregnancy.

DM, HTN, CV & renal impairment, history of thromboembolic events, sickle-cell anemia.

Disturbances of liver function, jaundice, exacerbation of epilepsy & migraine, acne, urticaria, fluid retention, GI disturbances, changes in libido, breast discomfort, premenstrual symptoms, irregular menstrual cycles, nausea, insomnia, alopecia, hirsutism (prolonged use), depression, somnolence.

Oestrogens, Progesterones & Related Synthetic Drugs
