Indications/Uses
Central & peripheral neuropathic pain in adult. Adjunctive treatment in adult patients w/ partial seizure w/ or w/o general secondary seizure. Generalized anxiety disorder in adults. Relief pain in the management of fibromyalgia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Dose range: 150-600 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses. Neuropathic pain, epilepsy Initially 75 mg twice daily. Generalized anxiety disorders 150-600 mg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses. Fibromyalgia 300-450 mg daily in 2 divided doses. Initially 75 mg twice daily & may be increased to 150 mg twice daily w/in 1 wk. Patient who do not experience sufficient benefit w/ 300 mg daily, dosage may be further increased to 225 mg twice daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Discontinue immediately if symptoms of angioedema eg, facial, perioral or upper airway swelling occur. Loss of consciousness, confusion & mental impairment. Transient visual blurring & other changes in visual acuity. CHF patients. Increased CNS adverse events especially somnolence in treatment of central neuropathic pain due to spinal cord injury. Adjust hypoglycemic medications in some diabetic patients who gain wt during treatment. W/drawal symptoms. Evaluate patients for history of drug misuse & abuse & observe for signs of pregabalin abuse. Patients w/ rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, Lapp-lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception. Pregnancy & lactation. Associated w/ dizziness & somnolence that may increase accidental injury/fall in elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nasopharyngitis; neutropenia; increased appetite; anorexia, hypoglycemia; euphoria, confusion, irritability depression, disorientation, insomnia, reduced libido; Hallucination, restlessness, agitation, depression, mood changes, depersonalization, abnormal dream, increased libido, anorgasmia; dizziness, somnolence; ataxia, tremor, dysarthria, amnesia, memory disturbances, paresthesia, hypoesthesia, sedation, balance disorders, lethargy; blurred vision, diplopia; vertigo; tachycardia, initial AV block, sinus bradycardia; hypotension, HTN, hot flushes, flushing, peripheral coldness; dyspnea, epistaxis, cough, nasal congestion, rhinitis, snoring; nausea, constipation, abdominal distension, dry mouth; GERD, saliva hypersecretion, oral hypoesthesia; papular rash, urticaria, sweating; muscle cramps, arthralgia, back pain, arm pain, cervical spasm; urinary incontinence, dysuria; erectile dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, delayed ejaculation, dysmenorrhea; peripheral edema, edema, abnormal gait, fall, fatigue; wt gain.
Drug Interactions
Increased ethanol & lorazepam effects.
