Indications/Uses
Oral: Short-term treatment of active duodenal or gastric ulcer. Symptomatic relief of reflux oesophagitis. Maintenance treatment of duodenal or gastric ulcer. Treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & systemic mastocytosis. Inj: Pathological hypersecretory conditions or intractable duodenal ulcer. Alternative for short-term treatment in patients who are unable to take oral ranitidine.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Active duodenal ulcer 1 tab 2 times daily (morning & night) or 2 tab once daily after supper or before bedtime for 4-8 wk. Active gastric ulcer 1 tab 2 times daily (morning & night) for 2 wk. Maintenance treatment of duodenal & gastric ulcer Adult 1 tab before bedtime. Pathological hypersecretory conditions (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, systemic mastocytosis) Adult 1 tab 2 times daily, may be increased to 6 g/day in severe cases. GERD Adult 1 tab 2 times daily. Erosive oesophagitis Adult 1 tab 4 times daily. Maintenance & healing of errosive oesophagitis Adult 1 tab 2 times daily. IM inj 50 mg (undiluted) 6-8 hrly. Intermittent IV inj Bolus: 50 mg (2 mL) 6-8 hrly. Rate of inj should not exceed 4 mL/min (for 5 min). Infusion: 50 mg (2 mL) 6-8 hrly. Rate of infusion should not exceed 5-7 mL/min (for 15-20 min). Continuous IV infusion Infusion rate: 6.25 mg/hr for 24 hr. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome or other pathological hypersecretory conditions Initial infusion rate: 1 mg/kg/hr & should be adjusted to patient's condition.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
History of acute porphyria. Renal & hepatic dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, malaise, dizziness, drowsiness, insomnia, vertigo, agitation, depression, hallucination, arrhythmia, AV block, premature ventricular beats, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, pancreatitis, arthralgia, myalgia, leucopenia, granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia, agranulocytopenia, pancytopenia, aplastic anemia, gynecomastia, impotence, loss of libido, rash, erythema multiforme, alopecia, hypersensitivity reactions.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ warfarin may increase or decrease prothrombin time.
