Ranitidine HCl
Indications/Uses
Active duodenal & gastric ulcer, reflux gastroesophagitis symptoms. Maintenance therapy for duodenal & gastric ulcer after healing of acute ulcer. Treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & systemic mastocytosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab & inj Adult Active duodenal ulcer 150 mg twice daily or 300 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Active gastric ulcer 150 mg twice daily for 2 wk. Gastric & duodenal ulcer Maintenance therapy: 150 mg at night before bedtime. Treatment of pathological hypersecretory conditions eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & systemic mastocytosis; GERD 150 mg twice daily. Severe disease: Up to 6 g daily. Erosive esophagitis 150 mg 4 times daily. Maintenance & treatment: 150 mg twice daily. Patients w/ impaired renal function CrCl <50 mL/min 150 mg/day, may be adjusted to ≤12 hrly intervals. Syr Peptic ulcer Childn 2-4 mg/kg, twice daily for 4-8 wk. Max: 300 mg daily. GERD Childn 2-4 mg/kg, twice daily for 8-12 wk. Max: 300 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Gastric malignancy, history of acute porphyria. Impaired renal funcĀ­tion, hepatic dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache; constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort/pain; gynecomastia, impotence & loss of libido in adult males.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin.
