Contents
Per 5 mL Oral soln Na phosphate monobasic monohydrate 2.4 g, dibasic Na phosphate heptahydrate 0.9 g. Per 118 mL Enema Na phosphate monobasic monohydrate 19 g, dibasic Na phosphate heptahydrate 7 g
Indications/Uses
Oral soln: Bowel cleansing prior to abdominal radiographic exam, colonoscopy or GI surgery. Enema: Constipation treatment. As a laxative prior to rectal exam.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Oral soln Adult & childn >15 yr 45 mL soln diluted in 120 mL of water. Enema Adult & childn >12 yr 118 mL as a single dose.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Oral soln: Each dose should be followed by 1 full glass (240 mL) of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Oral soln: Patients w/ faecal impaction, paralytic ileus, intestinal obstruction, hypomotility, Hirschprung’s disease (congenital megacolon), anal imperforate, congestive heart disease, ascites, reduced kidney function, kidney failure, preexisting fluid/electrolyte disturbances. Patients w/ risk of dehydration. Known or suspected GI obstruction or poor intestinal motility. Inflammatory blowel disease. Patients w/ nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain. Childn <15 yr.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ colostomy. Ca, phosphate, K & Na level should be closely monitored. Patients w/ impaired renal function. Oral soln: Receiving low salt diet. Patients w/ heart disease, MI, unstable angina, pre-existing electrolyte disturbances, receiving drugs that prolong QT interval, ulcerative colitis, DM, reflux esophagitis, swallowing reflex disorders, unconsciousness, any conditions that allow regurgitation. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly. Debilitated patients. Enema: Patients who are suffering congenital megacolon, intestinal obstruction, anal imperforation, or CHF. In patients taking diuretics or other drugs that can affect electrolyte levels in the body. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, hypernatremia, acidosis. Oral soln: Dehydration, electrolyte imbalance including hypokalemia. Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, flatulence, diarrhea, weakness, chill, headache, dizziness, allergic reactions w/ or w/o rash, fatigue, GI spasms.
Drug Interactions
Oral soln: Ca channel blockers, diuretics, lithium, other drugs that may affect on electrolyte level, OC, anticonvulsant, antidiabetes, antibiotics, polyethylene glycol.
