Misoprostol
Indications/Uses
Prevention of NSAID-induced gastric ulcer.
Dosage/Direction for Use
200 mcg 4 times daily. If doses of 200 mcg cannot be tolerated, dose may be reduced to 100 mcg.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to prostaglandin. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ cerebrovascular or CAD or severe peripheral blood vessels disorders including HTN. Childn <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, abdominal pain. In women: Cramps, menorrhagia, menstrual disorders, spotting, dysmenorrhea, nausea, headache, bloating, dyspepsia, vomiting, constipation.
Drug Interactions
Misoprostol; cardiac, GI, pulmonary & CNS drugs. Antacids (high dose).
