Lactulose
Indications/Uses
Chronic constipation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual dose: 15-30 mL daily, may be increased to 60 mL daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort. Dilute w/ water, milk, or fruit juice to improve taste.
Contraindications
Patients under galactose-free diet.
Special Precautions
Diabetes, galactosemia. 1st trimester of pregnancy, lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Flatulence, nausea, vomiting.
Drug Interactions
Antiinfective drugs, antacids.
