Mild to moderate painAdult & adolescent >14 yr 500 mg 3 times daily. Dysmenorrhea 500 mg 3 times daily at the onset of menstrual pain & continued while symptoms persist. Premenstrual syndrome 500 mg 3 times daily at the onset of symptoms & continued until cessation of symptoms.
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patient experiencing bronchospasm, allergic rhinitis & urticaria w/ ASA or other NSAIDs. Active ulceration or chronic upper or lower GI tract inflammation. Treatment of peri-op pain in CABG surgery. Severe heart failure. Pre-existing renal disease. Severe renal & hepatic failure.
Discontinue at the 1st appearance of skin rash, serious skin reactions including drug reaction w/ eosinophilia & systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), mucosal lesions, or any other sign of hypersensitivity; if abnormal liver tests persist or worsen, if clinical signs & symptoms consistent w/ liver disease develop, or if systemic manifestations occur. Avoid concomitant use w/ systemic non-aspirin NSAIDs including COX-2 inhibitors. May increase frequency of GI ulcers & bleeding w/ another systemic NSAID. Increased risk of GI & non-GI bleeding w/ oral anticoagulants. Patients w/ known CV disease or risk factors for CV disease may be at greater risk of serious CV thrombotic events, MI & stroke. HTN. Closely monitor BP during the initiation of treatment & throughout the course of therapy; anticoagulation/INR in patients taking a warfarin/coumarin-type anticoagulant. Patients w/ fluid retention or heart failure; ingesting alcohol or w/ a prior history of ulcer disease or GI bleeding; liver cirrhosis, nephrotic syndrome, overt renal disease. False +ve reaction for urinary bile using the diazo tab test. Perform other diagnostic procedures eg, Harrison spot test if biliuria is suspected. May inhibit platelet aggregation & may prolong prothrombin time in patients on warfarin therapy. Not to be administered to patients w/ significantly impaired renal function. Consider w/drawal of NSAIDs in women who have difficulties conceiving or who are undergoing investigation of infertility. Not recommended in pregnant women & avoid during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Not to be taken by nursing mothers. Elderly or debilitated patients.
