Ceftazidime
Indications/Uses
Septicemia, bacteremia, peritonitis, meningitis, UTI. Infection of the lower resp tract, skin & soft tissue, biliary tract, abdomen, bone & joint.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-6 g daily IV or IM. Childn >2 mth 30-100 mg/kg/day in 2-3 divided doses. Neonate & childn ≤2 mth 25-60 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI upset, CNS effect, local inj site reactions & phlebitis or thrombophlebitis. Very rarely, hypersensitivity reactions. Transient hematological changes.
Drug Interactions
Nephrotoxic drugs.
