Adapalene
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply a thin film into the affected areas of the skin once daily in the evening before bedtime & after washing.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if hypersensitivity or chemical irritation occurs. Use a non-comedogenic & non-astringent cosmetics. Avoid moisturizers containing α-hydroxy or glycolic acids. Reduce the frequency of application or discontinue use depending upon the severity of side effects. Minimize exposure to sunlight, including sunlamps during treatment. Patients experiencing high levels of sun exposure & those w/ inherent sensitivity to sun. Use sunscreen products & protective clothing over treated areas. Weather extremes eg, wind or cold may be irritating to patients. Avoid contact w/ eyes, lips, angles of the nose, & mucous membranes. Exposure of the eye may result in reactions eg, swelling, conjunctivitis, & eye irritation. Not to be applied to cuts, abrasions, eczematous, or sunburned skin, nor should it be used in patients w/ severe acne, or acne involving large areas of the body. Wax epilation should not be performed due to the potential for skin erosions. Not to be used in woman of childbearing age & during pregnancy. Nursing mothers. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Erythema, scaling, dryness, pruritus, burning/stinging, skin irritation, sunburn, & acne flare.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use of other potentially irritating topical products (medicated or abrasive soaps & cleansers, soaps & cosmetics that have a strong drying effect, & products w/ high conc of alcohol, astringents, spices, or lime rind). Prep containing sulfur, resorcinol or salicylic acid. Concurrent use w/ retinoids or drugs w/ similar mode of action.
