Tizanidine HCl
Indications/Uses
Relief of painful muscle spasm associated w/ static & functional spine disorders (cervical & lumbar syndromes); following surgery for herniated invertebral disc or OA of the hip. Adjunct treatment of spasticity due to the neurological disorders.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Painful muscle spasm 2-4 mg 3 times daily. Severe cases: Extra dose of 2-4 mg may be taken at night. Adjunct treatment of spasticity due to neurological disorders Initially should not be >6 mg in 3 divided doses. May be increased stepwise by 2-4 mg at ½-wkly interval. Max: 36 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Renal or hepatic insufficiency. Lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Muscle weakness, insomnia, hypotension, bradycardia (in high dose). Dry mouth, drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue (in low dose).
Drug Interactions
Antihypertensives including diuretics, other α2-adrenergic agonists, alcohol or sedatives.
