Imipenem 500 mg, cilastatin 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract, intra-abdominal, gynecological, polymicrobial, bone & joint, skin infections; UTI, bacterial septicemia, endocarditis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV infusion Adult 1-2 g daily in 3-4 equally divided doses. May increase up to max of 4 g daily or 50 mg/kg/day. Mild infections 250 mg 6 hrly. Moderate infections 500 mg 8 hrly. Severe infections due to fully susceptible organisms 500 mg 6 hrly. Severe & life-threatening infections due to less sensitive organisms 1,000 mg 6 or 8 hrly. Childn >40 kg Adult dose w/ max daily dose of 2 g. Childn ≥3 mth w/ <40 kg 15 mg/kg 6 hrly.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. IM inj.
Special Precautions
History of GI disease particularly colitis, renal insufficiency, CNS disorders, partial cross-allergenicity w/ other β-lactam antibiotics, penicillins & cephalosporins, anaphylactic shock; patients w/ CrCl ≤5 mL/min/1.73 m2. Pregnancy & lactation. Infant <3 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Erythema, local pain, thrombophlebitis; rash, pruritus, urticaria, TEN, fever, anaphylactic reactions; nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, pseudomembranous colitis; eosinophilia, leucopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis; mild increase in serum transaminases, bilirubin &/or serum alkaline phosphatase; oliguria/anuria, polyuria, acute renal failure; myoclonic activity, psychic disturbances, confusional states or convulsions; taste perversion.

Ganciclovir, probenecid, lactate soln.
