Pantoprazole
Indications/Uses
Duodenal & gastric ulcer, moderate to severe reflux esophagitis. Pathological hypersecretory condition associated w/ Zollinger-Ellison syndrome or other neoplastic conditions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Duodenal, gastric ulcer, moderate to severe reflux esophagitis 40 mg daily. Management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other pathological hypersecretory condition 80 mg daily. Administration w/ >80 mg daily should be given in 2 divided doses.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Recommended only if PO is not appropriate. Not for mild GI complaints eg, nervous dyspepsia. Exclude possibility of malignancy of gastric ulcer or a malignant disease of the esophagus. Confirm diagnosis of reflux esophagitis by endoscopy. Renal & liver dysfunction. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Leucopenia, thrombocytopenia; upper abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth; inj site thrombophlebitis, peripheral edema; severe hepatobiliary damage leading to jaundice w/ or w/o hepatic failure; anaphylactic reactions including anaphylactic shock; increased liver enzymes, elevated triglycerides, increased body temp; arthralgia, myalgia; headache, dizziness, blurred vision; mental depression; interstitial nephritis; allergic reactions eg, pruritus, skin rash, urticaria, angioedema, SJS, erythema multiforme, Lyell syndrome, photosensitivity.
Drug Interactions
Changes in absorption should be observed when ketoconazole is taken concomitantly.
