Dosage/Direction for Use
Postmenopausal osteoporosis 0.25 mcg twice daily Renal osteodystrophy in dialysis patient Initially 0.25 mcg daily. Hypoparathyroidism Infant & childn 1-5 yr 0.25-0.75 mcg daily. Rachitis Initially 0.25 mcg daily given in the morning.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypercalcemia.
Special Precautions
Dialysis patients, predisposition of hypercalcemia. Renal dysfunction. Pregnancy. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Hypercalcemia syndrome, Ca intoxication.
Drug Interactions
Cholestyramine, thiazide diuretics, digitalis, phenytoin, phenobarb, Mg-containing drugs.
